Anna Maria Island-Hidden Treasure
Just seven miles from its northern-most tip to the bridge to Longboat Key at the south end, Anna Maria Island is one of the best kept secrets the state of Florida possesses. It isn’t just the dazzling white sugar sand beaches, or the turquoise Gulf waters, or the expansive bay with it’s wide vistas looking out to the Sunshine Skyway bridge…(although this would seem to be enough)…no, there’s more!!!
Treasure lies everywhere here. Fascinating shops featuring unique merchandise, wonderful bistros and cafes serving up tempting cuisine from all over the world, outdoor art festivals, parades, concerts, boating, fishing, swimming, shelling, even diving on the shipwreck of an old barge are there for you to choose. Visit a spa, catch up on island history at the AMI Historical Society, or take a class at the Community Center. On Anna Maria, it does not require much “digging” to turn up jewels.
